Our newest program is our Functional Day Habilitation Program, JRC Prep. It is a unique blend of functional academics and vocational training integrated into a worksite. The many facets of JoyRide Center provide rich and diverse opportunities for work-based learning to take place. JRC Prep combines classroom instruction with continuous hands-on work experience. Goals and objectives are based on each student’s needs, and our approach is highly individualized. In order to achieve this level of individualization, we maintain a low student/teacher ratio of six students to one teacher with the help of two mentors chosen from the therapeutic riding program client base. JoyRide Center Therapeutic Riding Program are 45-75 minute sessions that include both mounted and un-mounted activities. Lessons include riding skills, fitness exercises, horse care, arena preparation and team building. Sessions are typically a 3:1 group with individualized goals. Competition opportunities are also available for clients riding in the JRC Therapeutic Riding Program. Horses are an essential part of the team – they facilitate learning, motivation and group skill building. The atmosphere at JoyRide Center emphasizes the “just right challenge” for each person.
